The Red Dragon "Y Ddraig Goch"
"This is the emblem of the
Welsh people. Since the Middle Ages it has symbolized bravery and
victory. Consequently, the emblem has been used on many a shield and
standard."
"Apparently, when King Henry VII was enthroned King of England in 1485,
he ordered that the Red Dragon be officially displayed on the Welsh
Flag."
"Often the Red Dragon is allied with the words, ‘Y Ddraig Goch a ddyry
gychwyn.’ The Red Dragon will inspire action."
Quote from
antique Welsh standard accompanying Welsh flag.
